RUCKUS

Giving artists space and time.

RUCKUS is Barbarian Productions’ creative practice week for independent artists at our home, the Vogelmorn Bowling Club. We celebrate the messy, noisy nature of creating live performance and give participants a warm, fun, community-centric space to work on their ideas.

RUCKUS participants are given rehearsal space somewhere in the Vogelmorn Precinct over a week along with some mentorship support. They’re encouraged to come and occupy the building as much as possible, meeting one another and the Barbarian team and building community as they get stuck into their creative wrangling.  At the end of each RUCKUS Barbarian hosts a friends and family showing where participants are invited to share what they have been developing over the week.

The contagious joy and growth of working creatively with others... I cannot say thank you enough to Barbarian.

RUCKUS puts community and creative practice first. It is open to practitioners of all levels and skills, and projects at all stages of development. Preference is given to artists based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara as we seek to support sustainable theatre making in our city, but we know that many makers move around the country and have often supported works which have a season in our city although the makers are based elsewhere.
