EggFruit

A mysterious object that can speak and listen.

EggFruit is a mobile recording booth that gathers and broadcasts the thoughts and ideas of the people of Aotearoa New Zealand.

It’s a space for exchange and reflection, developed as an alternative method of public consultation around issues of national identity (eg. the failed flag referendum of 2016). EggFruit offers an experimental new approach.

Eggfruit has appeared at Te Rā o Waitangi celebrations for Wellington City Council in 2023/24, and at Te Papa Tongarewa for their 2023 Matariki celebrations and in 2024 for the anniversary of the Te Māori exhibition.

It’s also been presented at Barbarian Uprising 2017 and 2019, at Te Papa and on the Wellington Waterfront as part of What if the City Was a Theatre in 2021, at CubaDupa in 2021 and as a feature of both UR Here and UR Back. (Available on demand).

The EggFruit was commisioned and built by Isaac McCormack of NZ design company Overdesign
