Our work
Speed is Emotional
A high-voltage, high-vulnerability comedy performance by Artistic Director Jo Randerson.
Surrealist Soiree
A bespoke performance by an imaginary troupe of artists, created to interact with audiences at an event hosted by Te Papa as part of the Surrealist Art touring gallery exhibition.
Dress Up Jam
An open, street-level performance space, where the friendly attendants invite passers-by to dress up, act up and wig out, or just... whatever!
The Feedback Machine
A prototype design for capturing qualitative responses to our work, in a way that is difficult to achieve using a standard survey method.
Things At Home
A video series created in Aotearoa’s COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 by Barbarian’s Artistic Director Jo Randerson.
Albatross Mating Dance
A specially commissioned interactive dance performance for the Te Taiao After Dark: Sex and Larvae on Valentine's event at Te Papa.
Sing It To My Face
An intergenerational confrontation on stage laying bare how old and young really feel about each other.
The Kids’ Election
A polling booth especially for tamariki - making civic participation fun, creative and accessible for a tough crowd.
Political Cutz
A pop-up hair salon offering cheap coffee and free professional haircuts to people in exchange for political discussion in the lead up to the General Election.
White Elephant
Three bloated oligarchs enter a new world and set about making it their own. A chorus of masked Zanni (servants) attend to and perform for them. White Elephant collides three dancers and three actors in a ‘bastardised’ commedia/ clown/ mask performance.
Help Us Change
An outdated organisation of reapers seek consultation on their public image. Over a period of time the Grim Reapers change their appearance and manner to try and reflect the public's suggestions.
Good Night: The End
A play by Jo Randerson about life, work, death and who keeps using up all the Milo.
